REPORT: Public regulation to facilitate implementation of access-to-energy projects

17.06.2016

Governments are the key players in reaching the objective of SE4ALL: UN Sustainable Development Goal No 7. Large energy companies, as well as small innovative enterprises, also play an important role in actually delivering on this commitment. What is less clear is the role that the regulatory authorities should and can play, and the regulatory approaches that could most effectively promote sustainable and efficient universal access to energy.

The Florence School of Rregulation, and WAME have recently conducted a global enquiry in order to try to establish the current role of regulation in providing energy to all. This newly published report outlines the general points raised by respondents in relation to national electricity planning, the role of technical regulation and the role of economic regulation respectively.
