The International Energy Charter 2015 aims to strengthen international cooperation in order to face the common challenges in the energy sector at regional, national and international level, including a global energy structure evolution.
The Charter is especially focused on the importance of access to sustainable, modern, affordable, and cleaner energy sources, especially in developing countries, helping to reduce energy poverty. To fulfill the goal of access to energy sources and their development, the 65 signatory countries ensure that main rules will be publicly accessible, transparent and consistent with national and international laws, and that the development of energy resources will occur under economic and eco-friendly conditions.
The signatories are going to expand the access to energy resources and markets, they develope coordination of energy policies, liberalize trade in the energy sector and implement research and technology innovation on energy efficiency and environmental protection.
