The Moving Energy Initiative (MEI) has recently published an interesting report where they identify private sector engagement as key in meeting energy access needs in refugee and internally displaced person (IDP) settings. They argue that private-sector actors have the expertise in the development and management of cost-efficient and effective energy solutions, that is needed to scale-up or optimising energy access so desperately needed in many refugee and IDP settings. They have, furthermore, cited the need to move away from free handouts towards the development of sustainable business models in order to meet the energy needs in such setting.
