The energy transition is a pillar of climate policy, aimed at achieving zero emissions by 2050. Reaching these goals will require the development of new energy and mobility technologies, leading to a significant increase in demand for Critical Raw Materials (CRM) such as cobalt, lithium, nickel and rare earths (REE).
The current context presents several critical challenges: excessive geographical concentration of deposits, mining, refining and manufacturing activities; high price volatility, which makes markets highly unstable; and limited transparency and monitoring of the environmental, social and governance impacts of these activities.
The workshop 'Critical Raw Materials: Challenges and Tools for the Energy Transition' aims to provide a platform for members of the scientific community to present research on these topics, and for various stakeholders in the sector to share their experiences and expectations.
The event, coordinated by the 'RAw Materials for the Energy Transition’ Research Programme - RAMET' of Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) will include two working moments: a series of presentations and a concluding roundtable discussion.
