Entries open for 2023 Ashden Awards: Powering a Fairer Future

18.01.2023

Roll the drums: entries are open for the 2023 Ashden Awards.

Eight prizes will supercharge climate innovators powering a fairer future, with a focus on natural climate solutions and boosting access to clean energy. Entry is free and closes on March 8, with awards covering the UK and low-income countries.

This year brings exciting new categories such as Skills in Sustainable Land Management (UK) and Integrated Energy Africa, while our UK-based community nature adaptation award puts the spotlight on local action. And we’ll welcome back awards boosting energy access skills; powering up refugees and smallholder farmers; supporting indigenous communities, and backing UK energy innovation.

You can’t tackle the climate crisis without tackling inequality too – that’s why we’re hunting for initiatives that create a fairer world as well as lower emissions. Working with new partners, such as the fantastic Global Refugee-led Network, is helping us make the awards more inclusive than ever.

What’s the impact of an Ashden Award? Here’s one example from East Africa: 2021 champions YICE Uganda used their prize money to open a new training centre, helping more marginalised smallholder farmers earn a living and improve their health through sustainable agriculture. YICE saw the story of their triumph told in media across region – which unlocked a $55,000 donation.
