Young people and youth organisations worldwide are invited to join an unprecedented mobilization of young people in environmental governance as a contribution to the Stockholm+50 International Meeting.
“Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity”, is an international meeting hosted by the United Nations system that will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2022, during the week of World Environment Day, to commemorate the 50 years since the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and its outcome documents, accelerate global action and delivery for sustainable development, including a sustainable recovery from COVID19 pandemic. UNEP serves as the coordinating UN agency for this process. This provides an opportunity for the international community to strengthen cooperation and show leadership in the transformation towards a more sustainable society.
The Stockholm+50 Youth Assembly will take place on 30th/31st of May - 1st June (exact dates to be confirmed) in a hybrid format as a youth preparatory event for the Stockholm+50 bringing together youth organizations and movements worldwide. The International Meeting and Youth Assembly will be held further in conjunction with independent events such as the 4th UN Science Policy Business Forum (SPBF) from the 31st May - 4th June, and the Summit of the UN One Planet Network toward the end of May 2022.
With support from various donors, spots for participation are available for young people toward the above-mentioned events. The funded opportunity is intended to bring children and youth from all regions of the world to Stockholm, with aim to a) build capacity among children and youth when it comes to their understanding of United Nations processes and environmental governance b) enable networking between youth advocates globally and c) enable policy advocacy of children and youth in the relevant deliberations towards more environmental protection and meaningful youth engagement.
