Abstract
The project is designed to improve quality of life of the rural poor in the Dominican-Haitian border region, through the production of renewable energy from biomass plants and by increasing the local economy. Furthermore, the project advocates a sustainable practice by increasing forest cover and protect areas where water sources are originating and contribute to import substitution through the use of domestically produced biodiesel. The target groups are ten rural communities in the municipalities of Pedro Santana (Dominican Republic) and Cerca-la-Source (Haiti).
